Glowing fluorescent lights, the distinct waft of hairspray, bronzed bodies fill the room wearing carefully nominated costumes. The highly anticipated 2018 New Zealand Fashion week has begun. Kiwi media tycoons, designers, reality TV stars and social media influencer's alike all gather for a night out, they make it known that this is the event of the year. The opening night sets the tone for the rest of the week and Mercedes-Benz is hosting the Knuefermann pre-show soiree and sponsors the fashion show. Champagne is flowing, which increases the anticipation and giddiness surrounding the impending show. No one can expect that the star of the show won't be a model, or even the designer herself, but a retro Mercedes-Benz with the top down parked in the middle of the runway.

Knuefermann style can be described as retro vibes mixed with neutral modern. Asymmetric clothing shapes with fabrics inspired by 1970s colours and textiles. It is one of those brands that feels comfortable, Turet Knuefermann clearly envisions clothing as something practical and well structured. Last season we saw sequin slips and chunky glitter jumpers, but we also saw neutral chiffon swing dresses and blouses. Lights dim at 9pm and the chatter diminishes, all eyes dart towards the front of the runway and the first model makes her debut. This season she firmly sticks to what she is best at, Turet Knuefermann carefully constructed a collection of ethereal pieces, both traditional and modern silhouettes, often combined. TK certainly has a knack for creating dainty and feminine pieces that translate into contemporary society. Although most pieces are creamy coloured fabrics and stick to a neutral palette, there are pops of bold colour which are the real standouts of this collection.

The most likeable quality about Knuefermann style is that it is wearable, you can envision yourself in one of her slip dressed, you could walk into a meeting boasting one of her refined blouses. Our top pick for this year was the bold red blouse, buttoned to the top, paired with a gold skirt with asymmetric features, it perfectly combines the two distinct styles in the show and is awe-inducing.
