All of your pre-conceived ideas of a fish market should be thrown at the window when visiting the new Auckland fish market dining precinct. Located at the original location in Wynyard Quarter, it looks familiar on the outset but upon entrance, you will be transported into what feels like a completely new and trendy setting.

The motto for the re-marketed market is "Eat At The Source", which is entirely perfect. The fish market had decreased in popularity over the last decade due to the development of Wynyard Quarter and undoubtedly needed to find a way to generate crowds. Re-opening just in time for the end of Summer, we rate this spot the ultimate dining location for weekend catch-ups. Set up as an outdoor courtyard food-court, the setting is fresh and modern. String lights, vines and lanterns greet you when you enter and create the ultimate ambience for the dining area.

Upon entrance you will get the feeling that you are the last person in Auckland to hear about the re-opening, it has already generated popularity from the likes of locals and tourists. If you're looking to impress your foodie friend group or have visitors in town then this is one-of-a-kind location serving up something for everyone.

You are spoiled for choice when it comes to eateries here - with well-known names including the likes of Azabu, which serves Japanese/Peruvian dishes and Ika Bowl, putting a Polynesian twist on popular poke bowls (the name derives from Cook Island Ika Mata).

Of course, you can find old favourites like fish and chips at Market Galley. If you're in the mood for something new you might want to pick up a plate at Tiki Thai, they serve traditional Thai food re-imagined with bold spice and textures.

Billypot serves a seafood favourite - fresh oysters on ice that will pair perfectly with a cold Asahi from the bar. If seafood isn't your thing then you won't be left out - Super Pizza serves up variations of delicious traditional pizza.

One of our favourite things about the market is the upscale food-court set-up. All dishes at the eateries are served on takeaway, bio-degradable dishes and seating are all located in the courtyard. Here, dish sharing is encouraged and we can guarantee that you will want a bite of every dish that lands on your table.
