Ramen is one of life's greatest pleasures in our books and there is a fine art to it which makes the experience even better. The process of making this Japanese soup-based dish is extensive and intricate, from homemade noodles to tea soaked eggs and flavour filled broth. We are listing our ultimate slurp-worthy food joints in Auckland that will inspire you to make your New Years resolution be to consume all of the ramen.

Ramen Takara - Ponsonby & Browns Bay

This has to be our favourite spot for a wide and varied selection of delicious ramen. They follow the traditional process to-a-t, making their own noodles, broth and ajitama (seasoned egg). A classic on the menu is the Chasu Ramen, a soy based broth with Chāshū pork, egg, bok choy, spring onion, bamboo. Our top picks from the menu include the Wonton Ramen, Tan-Tan Ramen, renkon chips and steamed gyoza. The restaurant is vibrant, you will become familiar with the fantastic close-knit team. The Ponsonby location has an outdoor location, ideal for hosting a big group. ZOOL ZOOL - Mount Eden

Zool Zool is one of the younger restaurants in the ramen community, but has quickly proven itself to be a favorable lunch spot in central Auckland. Zool Zool's speciality is a variety of soup broths - from soy to pork, seafood and chicken. No one dish is quite alike which is what makes this place a stand out for us.

Ichiban Ramen - Albert Street

There are few ramen joints that will make you feel like you've stepped into an authentic Japanese restaurant. We vote this one of the most authentic ramen joints in Auckland city. Tucked away on lower Albert Street is Ichiban Ramen. There is little time for fussing over the menu here - they stick to simple and traditional recipe. This is an ideal spot for a work lunch, you can eat in the small but atmospheric restaurant or ring in and take it away.

Ramen Lab - Takapuna

If you're after a ramen restuarant on the Shore - this is a must visit. We love the concept behind Ramen Lab - you can customize your bowl to your liking. Start with the base and toppings of your choice. The soup is thick and flavourful and the noodle portions are substantial - a win-win.

Ramen Daikoku - Tyler Street

This has to be considered as one of our "all rounder" picks. Ramen Daikoku isn't fancy by any means - but they know how to do ramen and they do it well. Much like Ichiban. Daikoku replicates a bustling ramen joint in Tokyo and is often packed due to its popularity. The menu is extensive and well priced which is ideal for group dining.
