Wine In a Can: Suave or Trashy?

Until recently, cans in the alcohol section were reserved for beers and ciders. The concept of canned wine sounds a bit naff and trashy, the two words 'canned' and 'wine' seem to contradict each other like oxymorons.
There is something so sophisticated and mature about buying a bottle of wine, this all gets thrown out of the window when you chuck a can into a cart and call it a day. Despite this, there is something sort of trendy and almost adolescent about buying products like this, which is fun.
We can all admit to being guilty of gravitating towards a bottle of wine because of the brands packaging. This is no exception when it comes to canned wine, in order to exist in a huge market you need to stand out and grab a consumers attention, people will look at packaging before they look at the company or often even the price.
Above all, there is no denying the convenience of a canned beverage at a social event or party. Nobody wants to be the person frantically looking for a wine glass and protecting it fiercely due to unpredictable variables at parties. Additionally, there is something empowering about knowing your limit when it comes to drinking. So wine, which is typically higher in percentage, is conveniently measured to be the amount of a glass when it is sold in a can. So if the product tastes the same and has the same visual appeal, albeit in a can, why not try it out?
Due to the ever-increasing array of choice in the canned wine market, we've lined up our three favourite picks of trendy canned wines that we think are worth trying out.

No doubt the most recognisable brand of canned wine, Crafters Union made a splash into the market almost immediately when it launched. The wine company released can versions of their well-loved wines - a rosé, sauvignon blanc and pinot gris. Available at essentially every liquor store and a lot of restaurants, this is our most convenient pick.

Popular wine company Jacobs Creek launched their version of the trend at the beginning of the year, a pretty little can of their best-selling moscato. We hope to see the company release more products like this, especially with Summer and festival season impending.

The company confidently claims their take is "probably the best wine in a can ever" - such a Kiwi thing to say. Misty Cove released three ultra fresh cans with their very own personalities; The Embezzler, a pinot noir, The Charlatan, a sauvignon blanc and The Hustler, a sparkling wine. We could totally see these being popular during vineyard music festivals and could appeal to a broader market. They are super on brand and consistent, so we are not surprised that they released such a rad product.
